When to go to Dublin

Dublin works all year: the driest corner of Ireland, with long summer evenings, a full festival calendar and cosy pubs in winter.

The east coast is the driest part of the island, and Dublin’s museums and pubs make it a genuine year-round destination. What changes is the price: hotel rates peak in summer, at weekends and whenever a big concert or match is on.

Season by season

Spring (March–May)

Cool and brightening. St Patrick’s Festival in mid-March fills the city; April and May bring long evenings, parks in bloom and manageable crowds.

Summer (June–August)

Light until after 10 pm, outdoor events and the busiest season at Trinity, Kilmainham and the Storehouse. Book the timed sights weeks ahead.

Autumn (September–October)

Often settled in September, with the theatre and fringe festivals. Bram Stoker events around Halloween recall the city’s gothic side.

Winter (November–February)

Short days, lower prices outside the Christmas and New Year period, festive lights and markets in December. TradFest warms up late January.
