The coast road at Slea Head on the Dingle Peninsula

When to go to Dingle Peninsula

May to September for boats, long evenings and open attractions; winter is quiet, wild and atmospheric.

Dingle sticks out into the Atlantic and takes its weather head-on: mild all year, often windy, with showers that sweep through between bright spells. Mist can hide Slea Head and the Conor Pass entirely, so if you have two days, keep the drive for the clearer one.

Season by season

Spring (March–May)

Quiet roads, lambs in the fields and seasonal sites reopening around Easter. May is often the clearest month.

Summer (June–August)

Boats to the Blaskets, music everywhere and daylight until after 10 pm. The town is very busy; reserve rooms and dinner.

Autumn (September–October)

Warm sea, thinning crowds and the food festival in early October. A good time for whale and dolphin watching.

Winter (November–February)

Storm-watching and firelit pubs. Many guesthouses, the Blasket Centre and the boats close; Other Voices brings a burst of life in early December.
