The south coast is a little warmer than the rest of the country and gets its share of Atlantic rain. Cork city is a year-round destination; Kinsale and the harbour boat trips are at their best from May to September.

Spring (March–May)
Gardens at Blarney and Fota come into flower; the city’s choral festival fills the churches around the start of May.
Summer (June–August)
Kinsale’s harbour is full of yachts and its restaurants full of diners; cruise ships call at Cobh most weeks. Book weekend rooms ahead.
Autumn (September–October)
Harvest and food festivals, then the jazz festival on the October bank holiday, when every bed in the city is taken.
Winter (November–February)
Quiet and good value. The market and pubs carry on; boat trips stop and some Kinsale restaurants take a break in January.

Crowds & booking ahead
Cork rarely feels overrun. The exceptions are the jazz weekend in late October and days when cruise ships are in at Cobh, which swell the numbers at Blarney and Kinsale. Kinsale is busiest at weekends from June to August and on festival weekends.
