Belfast is sheltered by hills and gets less rain than the west, though showers are frequent. Its main attractions are indoors, so the season matters less here than almost anywhere on the island — unless you are adding a Causeway Coast day trip, which is best in the lighter months.
Season by season
Spring (March–May)
The parks and Botanic Gardens come into bloom; the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival runs in early May. Good value before the summer.
Summer (June–August)
Long evenings and outdoor events. Mid-July brings the marching season, when parts of the city are quiet and some businesses close for a couple of days.
Autumn (September–October)
Students return and the international arts festival fills October. Mild, with good hotel deals midweek.
Winter (November–February)
The Christmas market at City Hall runs from mid-November. January and February are the cheapest months; days are short.

Crowds & booking ahead
Belfast rarely feels crowded. Titanic Belfast is busiest on summer afternoons, school holidays and days when cruise ships are in port — book a morning slot. Hotel prices rise for big concerts and rugby or football internationals.
